Rekerds I listened to in 2006:

5. BAND OF HORSES- Everything All The Time

I really don't think this record is very good, but I wound up listening to it a bunch because 1) it sounds sometimes like Neil Young and I really like Neil Young, 2) it sounds sometimes like My Morning Jacket and My Morning Jacket sound a lot like Neil Young and I really like Neil Young 3) The Video for The Funeral is one of my all time favorites, a gorgeous vision of a very ugly thing. Great album title, too.

Best tracks: The Funeral, The Great Salt Lake

4. SUNSET RUBDOWN- Shut Up I am Dreaming

This rekerd really isn't that great either, but whatever I'm a sucker for Wolf Parade and can't help if this took the edge off the wait a little bit. Also, their live show was fucking incredible.

Best tracks: Stadiums and Shrines II, Shut Up I am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings (WTF?!)

3. UNDEROATH- Define the Great Line

I listened to this record a LOT. It all started one day when I was watching FUSE for hours on end, and every fucking video was some screamo brand shit that had almost no screaming to it whatsoever. Well these guys came along and tore a hole in the television screen and then jumped out of the television screen and started beating me with sticks and calling me a sinner and shit and spitting holy water all over me. It was magical.

Best tracks: Writing on The Walls, There Could Be Nothing After This, A Moment Suspended in Time

2. ISIS- In the Absence of Truth

I was speaking with my brother about this band a couple months ago. I asked why, if he is such great friends with these dudes, Isis have not taken Charlene out on tour yet. He responded by informing me that the main singer dude is so fucking metal that he really can't stand shoegaze and shoegazey stuff, and that Charlene'd never go out on tour with Isis because of him, even though the rest of the band would be totally into it. Anyway, here is Isis with yet another Shoegaze rekerd. Good job dudes.

Best tracks: Holy Tears, Not in Rivers But in Drops, Garden of Light

1. THE SWORD- Age of Winters

"grow a dick magner"

Best tracks: IT FUCKING SLAYS

Luck of the Irish

It just ran out.

So I never update this thing anymore, but about ten minutes ago I wake up after three and a half hours of sleep to the sound of a television set at full volume. Its some nightline broadcast or something about Iran. Ted Koppel won't shut the fuck up. So this is pretty strange and I'm sort of dehydrated so I crawl out of bed to go see whats up. Now earlier tonight my roommates (both fine young Irish girls) went to some party at a co-worker's apartment. Well I walk out to the living room and one of them, Vanessa, is sitting on the couch staring at the television in darkness. I walk in and she goes "oh, crazy party" totally wasted and out of it. I look in the bedroom for the other Irish and it looks like someone wrecked the place, clothes are everywhere, the closets are gutted. I can't find her anywhere. I ask Vanessa if I can turn down the television and she goes "turn it off, it won't turn off." So I do, and she immediately lies down and passes out on the couch. But I can't find the other Irish anywhere. Finally I walk up to the front door to make sure the thing is deadbolted, look to my left into the bathroom, and find my other flatmate, passed out cold on the bathroom floor. I'm back in bed now. I can hear someone throwing up really loudly. Its going to be a messy morning. But I'm going to work, fuckers! And so won't have to deal with it.

All in all a great experience. Worth updating this for.

Well, another weekend to remember. Mixed feelings about this one. There's a lot to write about. Its a good thing I'm fucking sick as shit (why do I always do this to myself? I was sick in London for like an entire fucking month) so I can update. Actually, its a good thing that for some reason THE HEAT IS BROKEN IN MY ROOM AND IT IS A COLD, COLD, TOMB. All I want to do right now is lie down and sleep and sleep but the COLD, COLD, TOMB is making that difficult. I'd use the couch but my roommates are watching South Park, which I find generally annoying and obnoxious. So, yes, Livejournal.

Lately I've been playing music with Eric Lindley. He is pretty much amazing, and we have a great time together. Sydney, too, has been playing with us (for all of fifteen minutes), and things sound great. Eric will be famous some day. I got to see him play twice this weekend. Once at Sig EP's Tsunami benefit, once at Sean+Anna+Sydney+Brent's birthday party. Because I've got time I guess I'll talk about both shows. Actually I'll talk about Friday night, too, because that is kind of key in discussing why a lot of people suck. I'm good at talking about how people suck, yeah? No? Yeah?

Bone's Gate Aspen Party:

So fucking sick of BG. I love certain people there, but even those people live in this crazy drug addicted world that I have no desire to be a part of anymore. Its too bad they listen to such great music. Yeah so in detail Friday Night was: mountains of cocaine. Actually scratch "Friday Night" and replace with "Last two weeks."

Sig Ep:

Well I had a sore throat for this one, which wasn't so great. Somehow I managed to get sick for the only weekend in the term that might actually matter (pessimism). Eric played an amazing set that should have been way louder (force people to listen to you dude! it worked for Drug. sort of.) Then, apparently, someone cracked the front of his guitar pretty seriously. Looked like it had been stepped on. I guess I'm skipping ahead though because we didn't realize that part till Sunday night at Panarchy. Anyway, Fashion Fashion! played. That band, for some reason, never sounds bad (except that one time at AREA)... despite the fact that they never practiced when they were all on campus, and especially don't practice now that they're all over the fucking country. Regardless that was, I think, the only time I have ever seen a crowd press/rush at Dartmouth. People were practically on top of the stage and shit when they came on. Clearly they'll be remembered for a long time with love. Other things I'll remember from that night/day:
-Riz saying that the only people at Dartmouth who could survive in NYC would be myself, Scott Baker, and James Bovay. He said I came in last on that though. Whatever, I got me some climbing boots, I'll reach the top. Maybe.
-Exchanging looks with Lindsey Davis all through the Fashion Fashion! set taught me that I luuuuuuuuuv her very much. I wish there hadn't been a sort of falling out or whatever, such that she never hangs out with us anymore. I had no hand in that shit, I wasn't even here : (

Girls gone wild commercial just came on. "Show us where baby's feed." Remember how I was going to talk about how people suck? That seems like a good segway.

After the show we went to, uh, fucking BG. I played pong with Chris for a while. We destroyed Momo and George, twice. Then everyone went to do more Cocaine. I've dealt with drugs plenty but these are the only people I know that end- rather than start- their night with them. Thats gotta be real healthy, doing a line so you can sleep (or not sleep, and stare at a television). Like my brother said about Ecstasy: everything feels perfect, until you realize that all you're doing is watching TV, and that if you're feeling perfect while watching TV alone, you're probably not in a very healthy place. I think his exact words were "Creepy plastic" or something along those lines.
So yeah, I left before the drugs for the first time in a while. It didn't make me feel any better, though. I went home and felt like crying. I didn't, though. Haven't done that in a while. In fact I remember perfectly the last time I cried. Its really not very suprising, I guess, but that just occurred to me. I can't tell if its because I'm less sad (optimism), or because I just feel less in general (pessimism).

This South Park episode is on repeat or something. It is running for the third time in a row. Fuck its cold in here. Oh, also, I think someone might have gotten mad at me for not drunkenly kissing her... but I also think she found someone else to do so, so its all good.

Redbull commercial. Andy + I downing Vodka Redbulls at the Metro club in London was probably one of the greatest things, ever. I can't remember if it was that night or the next that we wound up spending like 20 pounds on 30 minutes of Time Crisis 3, but, damn, if that was the same night then that night was AWESOME.

I'm wandering.

Panarchy Birthday Party (night of The Casino):

So, yeah, the Casino rule? As people, as musicians. In every way, really. They rule so much that, although I'd developed a pretty serious fever by the time they showed up, I drank and had a fun time. A very fun time. I love those guys. I'm feeling it today of course. But I'm getting ahead of myself again. First, Eric Lindley. What can I say. Everyone singing along to The King of Carrot Flowers Part 1 was absolutely beautiful and lovely and beautiful. I don't really know anything better than good music. Though, as a trip to lonepine will confirm, there is nothing worse than bad music. So, yes. And Eric, you don't really need that pitch shifter. Your voice is beautiful raw.
Then The Casino. Well I don't know how else to explain their intense amazingness, even without Ben. They'll be back in April WITH Ben... so if you really want to know how good they are, go then. Because I can't explain it on my own. Brendon danced like a motherfucker, which brings me such joy, to see Brendon dancing again. Sincerely and not out of boredom. God. Beautiful. Then we played some pong and hung out. Those guys have decided that they're ending every tour for the rest of their lives at Dartmouth. That is pretty rad. This night was also the first time I liked a girl and got blocked or whatever. Love you guys, even if you left me lonely : )

And so now here I am. Feverish and tired. At least my flatmate came in and turned off that South Park episode.
