Subject:Best of begins...
Time:2:21 pm.
Mood: Rocking.
Rekerds I listened to in 2006:

5. BAND OF HORSES- Everything All The Time

I really don't think this record is very good, but I wound up listening to it a bunch because 1) it sounds sometimes like Neil Young and I really like Neil Young, 2) it sounds sometimes like My Morning Jacket and My Morning Jacket sound a lot like Neil Young and I really like Neil Young 3) The Video for The Funeral is one of my all time favorites, a gorgeous vision of a very ugly thing. Great album title, too.

Best tracks: The Funeral, The Great Salt Lake

4. SUNSET RUBDOWN- Shut Up I am Dreaming

This rekerd really isn't that great either, but whatever I'm a sucker for Wolf Parade and can't help if this took the edge off the wait a little bit. Also, their live show was fucking incredible.

Best tracks: Stadiums and Shrines II, Shut Up I am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings (WTF?!)

3. UNDEROATH- Define the Great Line

I listened to this record a LOT. It all started one day when I was watching FUSE for hours on end, and every fucking video was some screamo brand shit that had almost no screaming to it whatsoever. Well these guys came along and tore a hole in the television screen and then jumped out of the television screen and started beating me with sticks and calling me a sinner and shit and spitting holy water all over me. It was magical.

Best tracks: Writing on The Walls, There Could Be Nothing After This, A Moment Suspended in Time

2. ISIS- In the Absence of Truth

I was speaking with my brother about this band a couple months ago. I asked why, if he is such great friends with these dudes, Isis have not taken Charlene out on tour yet. He responded by informing me that the main singer dude is so fucking metal that he really can't stand shoegaze and shoegazey stuff, and that Charlene'd never go out on tour with Isis because of him, even though the rest of the band would be totally into it. Anyway, here is Isis with yet another Shoegaze rekerd. Good job dudes.

Best tracks: Holy Tears, Not in Rivers But in Drops, Garden of Light

1. THE SWORD- Age of Winters

"grow a dick magner"

Best tracks: IT FUCKING SLAYS

Kanye West is the most important man in hip hop right now, and what he did on the NBC Hurricane Relief telethon was probably the most admirable thing I've ever seen a "celebrity" do. Good job dude.

Subject:Luck of the Irish
Time:3:25 am.
It just ran out.

So I never update this thing anymore, but about ten minutes ago I wake up after three and a half hours of sleep to the sound of a television set at full volume. Its some nightline broadcast or something about Iran. Ted Koppel won't shut the fuck up. So this is pretty strange and I'm sort of dehydrated so I crawl out of bed to go see whats up. Now earlier tonight my roommates (both fine young Irish girls) went to some party at a co-worker's apartment. Well I walk out to the living room and one of them, Vanessa, is sitting on the couch staring at the television in darkness. I walk in and she goes "oh, crazy party" totally wasted and out of it. I look in the bedroom for the other Irish and it looks like someone wrecked the place, clothes are everywhere, the closets are gutted. I can't find her anywhere. I ask Vanessa if I can turn down the television and she goes "turn it off, it won't turn off." So I do, and she immediately lies down and passes out on the couch. But I can't find the other Irish anywhere. Finally I walk up to the front door to make sure the thing is deadbolted, look to my left into the bathroom, and find my other flatmate, passed out cold on the bathroom floor. I'm back in bed now. I can hear someone throwing up really loudly. Its going to be a messy morning. But I'm going to work, fuckers! And so won't have to deal with it.

All in all a great experience. Worth updating this for.

Time:12:03 am.
Mood: happy.
Music:Built to Spill- Distopian Dream Girl.
If it came down to your life or mine
I'd do a stupid thing
and let you
keep on living

That pretty much sums me up!

At least I can laugh at myself about it.

I didn't go out tonight even though I told everyone I would and was excited for it. BUT I got home from work, relaxed to some tunes, took off my boots, etc etc. Got comfy. Started to fall asleep. Realized I have like a huge meeting tomorrow morning at 8am for Friday Night Rock stuff. And, like, I mean, now that I'm 21 raging on wednesday nights just because they're wednesday nights seems so blasé...

I had a laptop jam with Sean Adams today and it was fucking sweet. We made ramen and drank some PBR and talked about summer music.

I am excited about life again I think. That comes and goes, and I always kick myself for making statements like that. But.

Yeah.

Subject:A Good Conversation
Time:3:02 am.
Mood: happy.
Music:Joy Division- Ceremony.
Tonight I had A Good Conversation:

minimalism rocks: man
minimalism rocks: fucking goth kids
Talvez96: what goth kids
minimalism rocks: all goth kids
Talvez96: I mean yeah I guess they suck but why do you care
minimalism rocks: it just came to me
Talvez96: hey you know whats fucking arbitrary
Talvez96: clothing
minimalism rocks: i guess so
minimalism rocks: but it's for the best
Talvez96: I mean I don't love anything more
minimalism rocks: people are ugly naked
Talvez96: but it is certainly arbitrary
minimalism rocks: truth
Talvez96: like right now
Talvez96: I am naked
Talvez96: and it is pretty sweet
Talvez96: but I am about to go to sleep
minimalism rocks: don't you get cold
Talvez96: so I am putting on pants and a shirt
minimalism rocks: or are you in a place that actually has working heating
Talvez96: PAJAMA pants
minimalism rocks: dude pajamas rule
Talvez96: yes exactly my point
minimalism rocks: i've started sleeping in sweaters or sweatshirts
Talvez96: so while I can be naked, and while clothing is completely arbitrary
Talvez96: I choose to wear it none the less
minimalism rocks: it's so awesome when i wake up
Talvez96: I mean there is no one around, the heating is adequate, I'd just rather sleep with clothing on
Talvez96: this rule does not apply when sharing a bed though
Talvez96: because THEN clothing not only feels arbitrary but a hindrance
Talvez96: I like nothing better than being a little cold waking up naked next to someone, and having to snuggle for warmth
minimalism rocks: truth
Talvez96: its a little like cuddle core, but with more overtly sexual tones/purposes
minimalism rocks: that hasn't happened to me in a very long time though
Talvez96: which is why I think cuddlecore is stoopid, by the by
minimalism rocks: asshole
minimalism rocks: ROCKIST
minimalism rocks: this is why you don't like twee
Talvez96: twee is definitely for fags
Talvez96: and not the cool kind of fags, either
Talvez96: here's a fun game
Talvez96: its called "lets see if I can plug in my alarm clock despite the fact that I just spilled a glass of water all over it"
minimalism rocks: i vote YES
minimalism rocks: this new old alarm clock i bought at the thrift store is the best purchase i ever made
minimalism rocks: $1.50 and it wakes me up EVERY time
Talvez96: another observation:
minimalism rocks: ok
Talvez96: my toes are in that weird winter condition whereby they are kind of dried out in that little area in between them, the webbing or what have you, and so smell slightly dead, and yet feel quite tough and sturdy for it
minimalism rocks: i don't think i've ever really experienced that
Talvez96: what are your thoughts on toes
minimalism rocks: useless really
Talvez96: but what about BALANCE
minimalism rocks: ears are more important
minimalism rocks: ok i have to go to sleep
Talvez96: thats true
minimalism rocks: i'm tired
Talvez96: I understand
Talvez96: sleep is part of being human
minimalism rocks: i wish i could talk more about anatomy and cuddling
Talvez96: the human condition, if you will
minimalism rocks: yes
minimalism rocks: and we are human
minimalism rocks: after all
minimalism rocks: GO GO VOCODER
minimalism rocks is away at 2:58:54 AM.

Today I am 21!

Time:3:27 am.
Mood: full with the beauty of it all.
Music:Constantines- Shine A Light.
Another beautiful night. What the fuck is there to live for but that.

And oh, there are half a dozen personal things I could say right now, to half a dozen personable people, but I will say none of it here.

After all, most everything I've ever had to say has been said to death. And what hasn't, soon will be.

I love you, Abby. That deserves the spotlight. That is about all that deserves the fucking spotlight.

Time:3:16 am.
Mood: happy.
Music:Spoon- Anything You Want.
More new song lyrics by me. Stolen from this play I wrote. Stealing my own ideas. Pretty rad.

Car

Your father had a car
He would drive it off to work.
Before driving it home again.
And when he was really worried
about something
he would drive it to the garage
and sit inside there for a while,
listening to his rock cassettes.
But when he wanted to make love
he would park it in the driveway
and come quickly up the stairs…
the best love I ever had
and somehow you were born
and you threw up everything we gave you to eat
you wouldn’t drink your milk
you bit my nipples till the blood came out
little alligator baby
your father had a car
and one day he drove it out
way off to the beaches
of Long Island New York
and when they found him there
I gave you your very first haircut
It was beautiful and black your hair
And now its turned to gold
From all the sun inside your soul
And yes your father’s dead
But I don’t give a shit
Because the only thing he cared about
Were his rock and roll cassettes
